Pre-Ride Course Data

Long Loop: 80 miles

http://bit.ly/LongLoopLaMosca

Long loop GPS track – Please note this track was made using some computer software, combined with track data from the previous course. There could be small errors. I’ll drive the course to set flag markers on Friday and upload that trace Friday evening. If riders use this track, plus watch for the flags, they will be fine on the 80 mile loop. The 60 mile GPS track is from an actual ride!

Because I don’t know your exposure or vaccination status, to mitigate the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Riders will not have numbers and course time will not be taken by event organizers;
  2. To have your time put into the results, you can email dukecitywheelmen@gmail.com after the event.  Times will be collected and put into finish order;
  3. Riders will start on their own, or in a “bubble” they arrange;
  4. The only in person registration activity will be at the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery between 6 and 6:30 AM and be conducted with masks on and adequate ventilation;
  5. Masks will be required for riders at all of the three aid stations as well as at the start/finish;
  6. Riders should not join with other groups or individuals on the road.  Only ride with people you know or alone;
  7. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the aid stations and the start/finish.  Please bring your own mask though, as there will not be enough for every rider at every point on the course where you must have one.
  8. An open air post race no-host food and beer will be available at the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery.   Masks will be required unless you are eating or drinking. We’ll have tables with 6′ distancing.
  9. Please be considerate of others and wear your mask when not riding and you are around others!!

Ghost Bike

Even during a pandemic, cyclists can be killed.

This link will take you to more pictures and a nice story in the Taos News https://bit.ly/TaosMcLaughlin

Stephanie with Ghost Bike On Wednesday, July 1, I was in the Taos, NM area to install a ghost bike for Mark McLaughlin, who was killed Friday June 26, 2020.  The exact location is 163 State Route 230, Arroyo Seco, 87514.

The event was at 6:30pm.

About 20 people, family that came in from out of state, and nearby residents, attended.

Here is the original report from Taos News. I don’t have any other details about the crash.

This story came up in an unrelated email search. It was really nice though, so I wanted to share, and thank Shannon Miera and her family, along with KOB-TV.

Also a big shout-out to those who have donated to DCW in order to help Nathan Alexander, who is from Princes Town in Trinidad & Tobago. Between the donations and Roger Ferrell’s investment, this bike was shipped out to Nathan this week! We’ll track his progress this season and post updates!

Lend your support to a promising young rider!

Nathan Alexander, just 20 years old, is from Princes Town in Trinidad & Tobago. He has been racing and winning, but on outdated and unreliable equipment.

Thank you for the donations received so far. We are well on the way towards equipping Nathan for the 2020 season.

Additional donations will make it possible to send him a set of race wheels!

The bike will be sent soon, race wheels to follow in January. Help us help Nathan by donating what you can today!

Ghost Bike for Christopher Greathouse

Ghost Bike for Christopher Greathouse, age 12, will be placed on November 10th at 4:00PM.

Original post said Sunday. Acutally, the Ghost Bike will be placed on Saturday, November 10.  4:00PM

He was killed on June 15th, 2018 while bicycling with his brother, Stanley.  The crash happened at Moon Street and Los Arboles Avenue, just south of Candelaria in the North East Heights.

Duke City Wheelmen will help the family place a ghost bike made by Christopher’s brothers Stanley and Anthony.  A metal plaque will be placed that has Christopher’s picture.

The family has stated that all are welcome at the ceremony where they will place the Ghost Bike at the scene of the crash and honor Christopher’s life.  Ghost Bikes are bicycles painted white, placed where a cyclist has died.  All too often, the cause of the death is a crash with a motor vehicle.  The serve to remind us of the importance of driving attentively, the value of human life and the joy that riding a bicycle can bring to young and old alike
